This was one emotionally draining books, but in a good way. I’m very impressive with this author and will definitely be reading more of her work.
We first met Rafe Murano as he has just returned home from deployment. His heart still broken from a past relationship. He is drowning his heartache in alcohol and sleeping with random women very night trying to numb his pain. He feels lost and like he has no purpose that the active duty gives him. His friend invites him out to burlesque club for the night, while there he watches a sexy as he’ll dancer dance has an immediate attraction to her. She is also the owner of the exclusive club. While Rafe defends one of her dancers from being assaulted, she quickly gets him out of there before he can be arrested. She offers him a distraction. Neither of them willing to admit that they feel more, their bond grows as they share past struggles and grow closer.
As part owner of the club Fallon still dances. She was an interesting character. It took a while to finally get to why she was the way she was and its just as heartbreaking. For her to let Rafe in, it takes just about everything she has not to push him away. She tries to let him go, she just seem to do it. The heartbreak she has felt since she was a teenager has caused her to build a brick wall around her heart and it makes hard for her to let him in. She is tough and s strong on the outside, but on the inside she is soft as a teddy bear.
They worked well together, even though they started out full of lust it slowly turned into the all consuming love we all dream about. It started out purely physical but with each passing moment they undeniably help each other heal from past hurts and heartache. Even though this book’s main focus was Rafe and Fallon, the other characters involved were interesting and developed well. Meeting Rafe’s family was awesome and the people in Fallon’s life were great.
The author did a wonderful job with characters and storyline. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Looking forward to reading more of her work.
