This book blends everything I love into one world, and it’s perfect. We’ve got the Great Library of Alexandra, and it has never been burned. It rules the world. The world has future tech in a most historical setting, and there are small instances of alchemy and steampunk. It’s lovely, well written and engrossing. I will say it started slow, but it grew and grew until all I could think about was the characters, what was going to happen, and when that plot twist happened, I cried. I cried for everything that could’ve been had they known. I cried for all the people who died. This book is fraught with peril, but so well done

“Are you ok?” Adam asked me, an amused smile making his gorgeous lips twitch. I could tell he was dying to laugh.

I loved this book! Perfect for anyone (aka ME) who’s waiting anxiously for the next season of Stranger Things, and the second part of the new IT movie! I’m a lover of the 80s, even though I was born right at the end.  This book had everything it promised and more. It had horror, loads of it, and outstandingly done, but it also had humor and an amazing sense of time and place. I really felt grounded in the book, which made the horror all the more real. Comparing it to some other horror I’ve read recently, it felt a little lacking in the depth of the characters, but overall, it kept me turning pages way later into the night then I should’ve been, and I couldn’t have enjoyed it more. The book has got great pacing, good main characters, and the plot is unique and terrifying. As others have mentioned, there’s a real Stand by Me/IT/Goonies vibes in this book, so if any of that appeals to you, pick this up!
