Review:

Grade: A++ (Five Stars and Beyond)

I love this book.  I don’t think I can express that in words honestly the roller coaster ride this book took me on. It’s tough because basically this book has got all the feels in it, plus a little bit of laughter, and a whole heaping helping of CRAZY! But, it starts out after the chaos we dealt with in Dawning. We’re throwing right back into the waiting arms of G.R.I.T and it’s a pretty sad place to be. Crow doesn’t hold back, you don’t expect an author to throw you in with a bunch of dying or severely wounded people, but she does… and I loved it!

I think the approach Crow takes to zombies is perfect. You don’t hold back, and you don’t ease into things. This is a really screwed up world. You don’t get time for a nice calm intro before the chaos, you get brought right into it, and you’ve gotta sink or swim. That’s what her writing does to the reader. You’re either in or out, but there’s no in between here. By this point, people who have read all the books are fiercely loyal to someone, or to a bunch, but you’ve got your emotional strings all kinds of tied up in this story, and Crow starts pulling at them, one by one. It’s going to hurt, I expected this going in… Crow’s FB status’s were a pretty clear giveaway, but I still loved it!

Personally, I liked the twist. If you read The Risen Remnants, there’s a part in there with bodies in a tree, not a majorly significant part, but Crow takes this and works it into Courage as well, and I did not see it coming. I was hit over the head a couple times throughout the book, like, “Come on, wake up, look at this major twist!” and it was great! The pacing of this novel was outstanding, it kept you at a constant high pace, and then it got higher. I couldn’t say there was one moment where I was bored or disinterested. Crow knows the right way to weave the horror with the humor, and really give us some great moments.  I personally laughed at “What is it, kick the blond day?”, priceless moments, where humor just breaks through. Not good-hearted humor, but snarky, sarcastic, realistic humor.

Overall, Crow’s characters really grow in this novel. I’ve always loved Helena, I think that giving us a female character, who can hold her own, was such a great decision. It’s so frustrating when all we see is the cowering females, but not Helena, she’s strong, smart and has got a whole lot of heart which makes her do a lot of dumb things, but honestly, put yourself there, and all your friends and family are in serious danger, and you might be able to help by doing something stupid.. would you do it? It’s a good question to ask, and a lot of us would probably say one thing and do another if the zombie Apocalypse does happen, but I think Crow got Helena right on the money. She’s flawed but she’s the backbone. G.R.I.T really finds some new footing in this book, without giving spoilers away, and I like how the dynamic works. Crow does a great job getting into the characters of this biker gang and really bringing out their individual personalities in the series. We don’t’ get one personality for G.R.I.T, we get all the ones that make it what it is.

So, wonderfully well written book, twists and turns galore, great characterization, and honestly, the ending is going to make you pick your jaw up from the floor. We are in for SO MUCH more in the next book… so jump in, read this series, and join in the Crow club! You won’t regret it!

About The Author:

59b404a9332a0a7e9d9af8.L._V384196603_SY470_

Marie F Crow is the author of the post-apocalyptic series, The Risen. She weaves her stories around the human element of the horror verses the “monsters” themselves. She believes that the real horror of life does not come from the expected, but from the unexpected responses of the human nature and what depths of trauma a person has to survive in certain situations. She began writing The Risen series when feeling that the popular genre was slipping too deep into the realm of pure “slasher” and forgetting what the horror of zombies can mean for a story.

Now with her children’s series launched, Marie hopes to use her favorite “monster” as a teaching tool to inspire children to understand that not everything that looks scary, is scary. With Abigail and Her Pet Zombie series, Marie hopes to further spread her love for all things “that go bump in the night” with small children showing them that it’s okay to be different and to embrace those same differences in those around them.

#Cover #Reveal! @MarieFCrow ‘s The Risen Courage! This cover will blow you away!

So today, I’m extremely excited to show you the new cover for the soon to be released, The Risen Courage by Marie F Crow. This book is supposed to be emotional, or so the lovely author has been teasing us with facebook quotes such as:

“There are so many deaths in this book, I feel like I should be in a confessional asking for forgiveness.”

“Courage stands at around 102’000 words right now. Editing has a way of adding a few 1’000 more as I fill in the words my fingers ignored or round out scenes with more dialogue. I hope it will be as good for you as it has been for me. Yes, I’m fully prepared for the anger it may inspire. It just means readers are as invested in these characters as I am. Truth be told, I’m a little angry at myself for this one.”

“I’m at a very interesting part of ‘Courage’. I’m not sure which way the story will go. I guess the real dilemma is, how many more funerals do I want Chapel to have to hold?”

I mean honestly, how do you handle this!? Well, by looking at this amazing cover!

Review:

Grade: A+ (Five Stars!)

This was wonderful! I was obsessed with Abigail from the first book. This sweet child who has a zombie as a pet. It was wonderful way to help children work on acceptance with such a fun twist that’s so relevant to our society today. Zoo Day is even better. In this next story, Abigail is going to the zoo, but once she gets there her poor zombie has to deal with the people who don’t accept him. He just wanted to play with the children and smilie at the babies. In this story, Abigail’s uncle has to help people come to understand just because the zombie looks different and a bit scary, that he’s not harmful and he’s actually very friendly. I loved this story. I loved when the zombie swam with penguins and the monkeys stole his arm! This is just precious! Plus, The Risen fans will get a special easter egg of an appearance of one of the members of G.R.I.T! How great is that?! Overall, fantastic book with a great lesson and humor for the whole family! Check this out as a wonderful addition to your family library this holiday season!

Review:

Grade: A+ (5 Freaking adorable stars and beyond)

Alright, I’m a failure.. let’s just start there. I read this book, really really early on, and somehow I didn’t write a review about it on the blog.. The review was written in a word doc, hanging out in my folders, but whatever, let’s get to the point which is:

Marie F Crow is brilliant. This lady cannot be stuck in a corner. She wrote amazing horror, and now she brings us a light-hearted, adorable children’s book with such a positive message! You cannot stop Marie F Crow.

I am beyond excited that I got to read this book. Yes, I know I’m not the target audience and it took me a total of like 10 minutes to really read and look at the pictures, but gosh almighty, it’s just too cute. I love the zombie, I want a pet zombie for myself. I want to give them as Christmas gifts to everyone I know (and include a copy of this book with it!). If you have young children in your life, consider grabbing this book. The illustrations are precious, and no, this book is not introducing children to horror. It’s a story about not judging people by their appearance, a valuable lesson for any child growing up. Marie F Crow weaves this tale for small readers (and big readers) with the amazing talent she uses in other books, but brings it to the perfect level for a beginner reader. This book will allow you to sit down with your kids, grandkids, godchild, ect and enjoy a funny, adorable story, and really look at the message behind it.

I don’t know what more I can say, except that you need to give this book a chance. It’s just one of the best picture books I’ve seen for kids lately, and I think for the modern generation of parents, this zombie with a heart of gold is something just out there enough to be fun, and allow you to break the mold of the same old, same old kid’s books, and add a new book to your family’s collection. You can tell Marie F Crow put her heart into this book. It’s touching, beautiful, and such a great little book! 🙂

In her presence, Nicolas’ own dormant powers begin to surface, triggering a sequence of events that cause both of their lives to spiral further out of control. When old friends from both sides come to help, together they all learn a painful truth: new life can only begin once you’ve set free what means the most.

But It

Amazon eBook | Amazon Paperback

Excerpt:

Once upon a time, there was a perfect girl, with a perfect life, in a perfect world. Once upon a time, that was me. Now nothing is perfect and the fairy tales are finally back to the truth of their origins as “warning tales” for children.

I will throw it all away for love; a love that will be the death of me. In fact, if you are reading this, some person that I have yet to meet, I am most likely already dead. The only way a set of eyes other than my own will rest upon these words is if my eyes are closed to never open again. The way the world is headed, I hope they close soon. I hope they close for good and not to just reopen again later in a lighter shade and foreign to those that once knew me.

This isn’t just my story that I write. It’s all of ours; all of us that are still trying to survive. Those still trying to pick up the very little that is left for us. Those of us just trying to carry on. Even when we feel utterly alone we are all connected. Now, in this no longer perfect world, we are either trying to survive or we are already dead.

If by some slim chance that I am still alive should you read this, I hope I find you. I hope we meet and we can share your stories – not your stories of today, but your stories of yesterdays. I crave to hear your stories of blue skies and laughter. I want to hear a story of another time when our families were whole and our friends were close. A time before those same people became things we had to destroy and fear.

As I write this my daughter, Genny, and I are hiding in our home. The neighborhood has become a dangerous place. Things that shouldn’t be possible now surround us. I don’t understand any of it. I only pray that we survive each day. I pray that my daughter, who relies on me completely, never has to watch me die.

Review:

Grade: A+ (five Stars and beyond!)

Marie F Crow has done it again.

This Risen book is just as good as her earlier ones, if not better! I was caught up from the moment the book started. I loved it, I was worried at first with a new cast.. I wasn’t sure it was going to be the same or draw me in, but I loved this new cast and this new side to the world they live in. The journal entries interested me, kept me thinking, along with the ever present refrain, “Don’t let my daughter see me die today”, we are compelled to keep reading, because if you know Marie F Crow’s style, if you love them, they will die.

This story had a whole new cast, and can be read without reading the other books, though reading them in order is always the best way to go. The story centers around a mom and her daughter struggling to survive in their new world. We also get to learn the cause of the zombie plague, and more details about it in this story. She gives us a different side of the world, different characters, quite different from Helena and her group. This mother/daughter foucs really keeping this tense and interesting, such a strong dynamic. We travel with the mom and daughter, meeting other survivors, and trying to find hope in this dark, dark world. I can’t even explain how much I liked this book, but as a warning, this is not a HEA. This is a continuing story, and things do not end all settled and happy, it’s the zombie apocalypse! Why would they?!

An amazing story, amazingly well written and completely engaging. You won’t put this book down, and you’ll read to the end, and you’ll want to throttle Marie F Crow, while simultaneously wanting the next book right now! Check this series out, Zombie loves, you won’t regret it!

I am in love with this author’s style! Bring on the next book! Hopefully very soon! 😉
