Day 10 – Top 9 Book Boyfriends :)

So, today… a wonderful post! 🙂

Top 9 Book Boyfriends

Random number 9, for day 10, but oh well, let’s go for it! 🙂 This will be a mix of indie books and popular books! These are in no particular order.. I love all of them equally!

1.  Mr. Darcy from Pride & Prejudice 🙂 The original book boyfriend, the perfect guy!  I mean, really, who doesn’t love him? I’ve read so many, much racier spin offs of P&P just for him!

Image

2.  Jace from The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare. Such a conflicted character, but so so lovely, and such a book boyfriend! He’s handsome, strong, and has such a heart!

3.  Will from Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare.. oh Will, so tortured, so smart. He love to read. He loves books. He’s perfect.

4.  Holden from Hopeless/ Losing Hope by Colleen Hoover. Oh Holden! He’s such a gentleman in a time where those are few and far between. He has been searching for the girl he loves almost all his life. He changes her life. He’s patient, kind, good hearted, and not to mention very very good looking 🙂

5.  James from Protected by Anna Applegate. Vampire with a soft side. You can’t ask for much more than that, except if he’s dedicated to spending his life by your side protecting you. He can also play hockey like no one else. I found a look a like, the hairs a little darker than I’d like!

James

6.  Ezra from King Hall by Scarlett Dawn.  He’s a vampire, who doesn’t want anyone to know he has a heart. He’s a fighter, a King Vampire, and a complete ladies man. He’s cunning, smart, dead sexy and deep down has a soft side. Ohh. I love him!

Ezra

7.  Cole from Branded by Abi & Missy, he is the white knight. Soldier, lover, and all around good guy. You don’t expect him to be as caring as he is, but he surprises you, and then you can’t turn away. He’s deep, caring, and an all around bad ass. He can fight, and he’s willing to fight for love. 🙂 Thanks to Devoured Words for this amazing image!

8.  Nicholas from House of Crimson & Clover Series. I know he’s not a main character in either book, but I’m so glad he’s going to be more of a focus in the next book. He’s interesting, a bit funny, definitely funny. He’s got such a different outlook on life, and it shows through. He’s got the best smile, or so I think 🙂

Nicolas

9. Last, Aragorn, from Lord of The Rings. I’ve always loved this ranger from the North. He’s rugged, handsome, honorable, and a king. He put people first, and does what’s needed of him, despite the consequences. I’ve love him since I was about 10 years old. He’s my king!

Book Slut Challenge: Day 1 – Top Three Must Read Series!

So, in line with our theme for August, I’m starting Day 1! Let’s dive right into it! 🙂

Three Must Read Series!

This is tough, as I’ve done so much reading in the last year, both mainstream and indie writers!

(You can click the photos to head to their websites!)

In no particular order…

1. “The Boy” series by Meg Cabot

bookcover3   bookcover2  bookcover1

These books are basically your favorite romantic comedy, put into book form ,which you can take with you and read throughout your day! 🙂 I went on a big kick earlier this year, reading all of Meg Cabot’s adult and YA books. I wanted to prove I could do it, and I always wanted to reach my goal of reading 300 books this year (Though I think I’ve got more than that on my Kindle currently!) I loved these books, Meg has a sassy, comedic style in her adult writing, and just the right amount of smart humor. Her leading ladies have real jobs and aren’t looking for a man to take them away. They love their careers, and the are just living life. I highly suggest this series to any women out there, because they are funny, smart, and cute, and just the perfect summer fun read 🙂

2.  Branded (A Sinners Series) by Abi & Missy

Branded Abi&Missy wrapFINAL-1

So technically, this will be a series.. the second one is coming! They have promised me. I adored this book, which you can read about here.

This dystopian novel falls in a long line of similarly set novel, futures too disturbed or shocking to be real, but where society has degraded to. Abi & Missy do an amazing, wonderful, outstanding job of creating a horrible future, and making it so real and so raw and enticing. The plot centers around the 7 Deadly Sins, the way the society now convicts their criminals. In the current society, if you were accused of one of the 7 sins, you were branded, and thrown in the prison camp, The Hole. Lexi, accused of lust, has been thrown in the hole, with her personal guard Cole. This story about overcoming your reality and finding grace and hope. Lexi is a stunning character, and a real triumph of human spirit and hope. You need to start this series now so you won’t be left out when book two has us all talking! 🙂

3. All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness

Not only do these books have the most wonderfully intricate covers, but the story is incredible. Don’t get me started on the whole vampire/ human thing, but this story, which has a witch/vampire love story involved. The first book is a bit slow, and has more descriptions of food then are completely needed. (Always talking about food, wine, food, wine) It’s set in Oxford, which is the most perfectly beautiful setting to imagine. But it’s the second book that really made me love this series and eagerly wait for the third one! History buffs, pay attention, they travel in time! They go and visit Queen Elizabeth I!! This for me made the book. I am a lover of Elizabethan fiction and non-fiction and enjoy seeing Elizabeth portrayed in books. This book has her cast as the jealous, vain queen that by some accounts she really was. But Matthew (vampire) and Diana (witch) really develop as characters in this second book, and give the readers waiting pains for the third one!! 🙂

If you wanna see a different take on this Day 1 Challenge, check out Tiffany’s Book Hangover, as she’s fighting her way through this challenge as well! 🙂

Love to see your thoughts in the comments as well! What are your three top series!? This one was hard, as I love so many, Harry Potter, Lord of The Rings, Hunger Games, so so many! 🙂

Review & Spotlight: Branded (A Sinners Series) and Giveaway News!

So today, I’m going to spotlight, and then post my review for this amazing adult indie book I was lucky enough to get a reader copy of.

As many of you know, the new trend in novels that’s growing in the same way vampire novels have (and still are) is dystopian novels. Novels set in a world years from now, where the world has collapsed in some way and society has rebuilt with new principals. I have read countless numbers of these type of books, from Life As We Knew It, which is not a far future but a future where the moon has shifted and life changes drastically, to The Hunger Games, where life is crappy and people get thrown into a battle royale to survive, and I have to say, I love this genre. I’ve read the Delirium series, and the Divergent series. I pick up these books constantly.

But off of me, Branded, speaking with my heavy dystopian background, is interesting. Looking at the cover:

First, it’s beautifully done, one of my favorite indie covers to date. I wan’t sure how I felt about this. When I see “Sinner’s Series” I automatically think.. crazy religious cult, and sometimes those books drive me batty, but I’m glad to say the amount of religion in this book is set to just the 7 Deadly sins.

Here’s a blurb about it:

“Fifty years ago the Commander came into power and murdered all who opposed him. In his warped mind, the seven deadly sins were the downfall of society. He created the Hole where sinners are branded according to their sins and might survive a few years. At best.
Now LUST wraps around my neck like blue fingers strangling me. I’ve been accused of a crime I didn’t commit and now the Hole is my new home.

Darkness. Death. Violence. Pain.

Now every day is a fight for survival. But I won’t die. I won’t let them win.
The Hole can’t keep me. The Hole can’t break me.
I am more than my brand. I’m a fighter.
My name is Lexi Hamilton, and this is my story.”

If that blurb doesn’t make you interested hopefully my review will.

Thing I loved:

I loved the idea that in this new society, when someone is a criminal it goes back to the base of all crimes, the 7 deadly sins, which I think is a genius idea. GENIUS! So many times in future novels things get so far fetched! This goes to base instinct, base learning. I think out of everything, it would be the first instinct. So in this society, if you are suspected of committing one of the 7 Deadly Sins (Pride, Wrath, Envy, Gluttony, Sloth, Lust,Greed) Each has it’s own color brand, and once they are branded they are thrown into The Hole, the new prison. There’s no judge or jury in this world, if you are accused, you are guilty! End of story! I loved the set up, I loved the character development. This is a really well thought out book, and you can tell they didn’t want to just follow the herd. These ladies are making their own path, and I am loving it.

Things I Only Liked:

I am terrified of Spiders, so if you are terrified of them, beware! I won’t give anymore out, but there is stuff of nightmares in this book for us spider fearers! 🙂

Things I Disliked:

The only thing I can say I slightly disliked was the romance set up, for me, I expected it to happen once they mentioned it was banned, but that’s the only slight flaw I had with the book! That’s saying something!

Grade: A- (Everything else is this book kept me guessing, and I was always right on the edge! Great writing!)

(I was given a reader copy of this book in exchange for a honest and fair review, all opinions are my own and not influenced by the authors)
