So a little about the book, here’s a quick blurb!

In one night, Etain is torn from a world of childish innocence to be plunged into a realm of deadly chaos. Forced to run for her life, she stumbles into the realm of the Alamir, human warriors infused with powerful magic who defend the delicate balance between good and evil. But not even the Alamir can protect her from the Bok’Na’Ra pursuer that murdered her family.

Lord Darknight and Midir, raised as brothers, are the light and the dark of a single soul, split apart by ancient priests when but a child. Midir has known of Etain’s existence most of her life and has conspired to possess the power she holds, power that will give him reign over the evil Bok’Na’Ra, nemesis of the Alamir. Lord Darknight, Dar to those closest to him, unaware of her existence, rescues the young woman after a violent clan battle which proves to be a pivotal moment in both their lives. His charge as a Krymerian mandates he protect and train her in the ways of a warrior however soon realizes their connection runs much deeper than teacher to student.

Old friends reunite and unexpected alliances are forged as Midir’s thirst for power escalates. It will take the courage of an Alamir, combined with the strength of a Krymerian, to battle the dark brother’s rising influence over the Bok’Na’Ra while, at the same time, will test a passionate bond too powerful to ignore.

Come on, tell me that doesn’t sound like a kick ass fantasy novel? J.D Miller is a indie author, self publishing this book, and working on her second book.

More about J.D Miller from her website:

“I’m just a little ole Texan living in the motherland – England – with my English husband. I moved here about 3-1/2 years ago leaving all my family & friends back in Texas – parents, brother, 2 daughters, 1 son, 1 talented grandson & 1 gorgeous granddaughter.  But, on the bright side, I resumed my writing which had been put on hold for far too long. There was a time when I dreamed of being an Interior Designer however that was shot to hell. It’s okay, really, I’m fine with it now. Being an author has its share of stresses but most are self-inflicted – not because of some insane client telling me how to do my job.

Blood of Kaos is the first. I have learned a lot on this path and my style has changed immensely along the way.  I hope that whatever I write you will always enjoy.”

You can reach out to J.D Miller via her website, facebook or goodreads, and she’d love to hear your thoughts on the book,  so check it out on amazon or smashwords, and give this indie author your support! 🙂

Review & Spotlight: Branded (A Sinners Series) and Giveaway News!

So today, I’m going to spotlight, and then post my review for this amazing adult indie book I was lucky enough to get a reader copy of.

As many of you know, the new trend in novels that’s growing in the same way vampire novels have (and still are) is dystopian novels. Novels set in a world years from now, where the world has collapsed in some way and society has rebuilt with new principals. I have read countless numbers of these type of books, from Life As We Knew It, which is not a far future but a future where the moon has shifted and life changes drastically, to The Hunger Games, where life is crappy and people get thrown into a battle royale to survive, and I have to say, I love this genre. I’ve read the Delirium series, and the Divergent series. I pick up these books constantly.

But off of me, Branded, speaking with my heavy dystopian background, is interesting. Looking at the cover:

First, it’s beautifully done, one of my favorite indie covers to date. I wan’t sure how I felt about this. When I see “Sinner’s Series” I automatically think.. crazy religious cult, and sometimes those books drive me batty, but I’m glad to say the amount of religion in this book is set to just the 7 Deadly sins.

Here’s a blurb about it:

“Fifty years ago the Commander came into power and murdered all who opposed him. In his warped mind, the seven deadly sins were the downfall of society. He created the Hole where sinners are branded according to their sins and might survive a few years. At best.
Now LUST wraps around my neck like blue fingers strangling me. I’ve been accused of a crime I didn’t commit and now the Hole is my new home.

Darkness. Death. Violence. Pain.

Now every day is a fight for survival. But I won’t die. I won’t let them win.
The Hole can’t keep me. The Hole can’t break me.
I am more than my brand. I’m a fighter.
My name is Lexi Hamilton, and this is my story.”

If that blurb doesn’t make you interested hopefully my review will.

Thing I loved:

I loved the idea that in this new society, when someone is a criminal it goes back to the base of all crimes, the 7 deadly sins, which I think is a genius idea. GENIUS! So many times in future novels things get so far fetched! This goes to base instinct, base learning. I think out of everything, it would be the first instinct. So in this society, if you are suspected of committing one of the 7 Deadly Sins (Pride, Wrath, Envy, Gluttony, Sloth, Lust,Greed) Each has it’s own color brand, and once they are branded they are thrown into The Hole, the new prison. There’s no judge or jury in this world, if you are accused, you are guilty! End of story! I loved the set up, I loved the character development. This is a really well thought out book, and you can tell they didn’t want to just follow the herd. These ladies are making their own path, and I am loving it.

Things I Only Liked:

I am terrified of Spiders, so if you are terrified of them, beware! I won’t give anymore out, but there is stuff of nightmares in this book for us spider fearers! 🙂

Things I Disliked:

The only thing I can say I slightly disliked was the romance set up, for me, I expected it to happen once they mentioned it was banned, but that’s the only slight flaw I had with the book! That’s saying something!

Grade: A- (Everything else is this book kept me guessing, and I was always right on the edge! Great writing!)

(I was given a reader copy of this book in exchange for a honest and fair review, all opinions are my own and not influenced by the authors)

Cover Reveal! Big Day! The Vampires of Soldiers Cove Cover Reveal!

So,  earlier on my blog I did a spotlight on author Jessica Intyre, and her lovely book The Vampires of Soldiers Cove, and attach a picture of the lovely author and the cover. Well, hold on to your socks people, because the author has got a hot new cover, that she feels better reflects her work! I couldn’t agree more!

Just a refresher, a little blurb about the book:

When 24 year old Rachel Landry, who suffers from a debilitating mental illness, receives a knock at her door one night from a stranger she gets an offer she can’t refuse. The chance to live as a vampire, gaining eternal life and relative sanity seems like a great plan. Soon she comes to realize she has been turned for a specific purpose and her vampire existence may be short lived. Also the handsome stranger may not be as much of a stranger as she thought. Facing her demons along with new enemies she must come to rely on her own strength to save her life, and the life of her new clan.

Reviewers have said:

“This book was a great book with a great story line. It was very enjoyable and doesn’t have a boring place in it .a must read for vampire lovers.”

“What I absolutely love about The Vampires of Soldiers Cove was, not only Ms. MacIntyre’s writing style – she has an excellent command on storytelling, grammar and editing, but I also loved the edginess, violence, power and hot sex. TVOSC is in no way formulaic. This book is deliciously dark, edgy and riveting”
