Synopsis

So how did I get myself into this situation, you ask? Simple: desperation. When you’re faced with being homeless and hungry or taking off your clothes for money, the choice is easier than you’d imagine. That doesn’t make it easy, though. Oh no. I hate it, in fact. There’s nothing I’d like more than to quit and never go into another bar again, never hear the techno beat pulsing in my ears again, never feel the lecherous gazes of horny men again.

Then, one day, I meet a man. He’s in my club, front and center. He watches me do my routine, and his gaze is full of hunger. Not the kind of desire I’m used to though. It’s something different. Something hotter, deeper, and more possessive. I know who he is; of course I do. Everyone knows who Dawson Kellor is. He’s People Magazine’s Sexiest Man alive. He’s the hottest actor in Hollywood. He’s the man hand-picked for the role of Rhett Butler in the long-awaited remake of Gone With the Wind.

He’s the kind of man who can have any woman in the entire world with a mere crook of his finger. So what’s he doing looking at me like he has to have me? And how do I resist him when he looks at me with those intoxicating, changeable, quicksilver eyes?

I’m a virgin, and he’s an American icon of male sexuality. I’m a stripper, and he’s a man used to getting anything and everything he wants. And he wants me. I know I should say no, I know he’s the worst kind of player…but what my mind knows, my body and my heart may not.

And then things get complicated.

Absolutely wonderful! At first the book started out slow and then it was like BAM! Her mom had cancer and was sick and then she’s gone. I ached for this girl because I know what its like to watch someone you love die from cancer. It sucks and is devastating. I was impressed though when she still went off to college and when her scholarship ran out she did what she had to, to make things work. She tried to just work as a waitress but they didn’t make enough. She starts stripping and is disgusted with herself even though she’s not doing the other things that the people at the club ask. Then she meets this man who changes everything. At first she’s hesitant and then they are both so drawn to each other. This book was amazing. I finished it in one night. I couldn’t put it down.

Thank you Jasinda for the advanced copy! Your writing is amazing!!

Ephiphany

Synopsis

***Mature Content Warning*** 17+ for sexy adult situations, language, and disturbing subject matter

“I had my first psychic dream when I was nine. Psychic implied power, and powerful wasn’t a word I’d use to describe myself. I couldn’t foretell the future or conjure visions at will, but I couldn’t think of a more fitting word to describe what I sometimes saw in my dreams.”

For 23-year-old Mackenzie Hill, tossing her life down the garbage disposal is easy after a painful incident shatters her life. Her heart is bleeding, and moving to Watcher’s Point is a chance to start anew, only she isn’t prepared for the guy who walks out of her dreams and into the flesh. Literally . . . because she’s been dreaming about this sexy stranger for years.

Mackenzie is even less prepared to face the dark nature of her dreams. They’ve turned disturbingly gruesome, full of blood and murder, and when they begin to coincide with the media’s headlines, she and Aidan realize her visions might be the key to stopping a madman from killing again.

Only Aidan has painful secrets of his own, and perhaps the biggest danger of all is falling for him.

Grade: A+

I started reading Epiphany by Christina Michaels today and I finished it this afternoon. At the beginning I wasn’t sure how I felt about the book. Then as I got to know the characters and started to really get into the plot I really started to enjoy the book. This book was a great read and I am so glad that I got to read it before it is available. It held twists I wasn’t expecting. Mac and Aiden’s relationship was inevitable. I had no doubt when he started coming to the bar that they would end up together. The back story of Mac and Aiden’s life was one I wasn’t expecting and I think that is why I enjoyed this book. There were things I wasn’t expecting and I love a book that keeps me on my toes and makes me not want to stop reading. This book was one of those. I am looking forward to the second book about Logan.

This is a wonderful book, and definitely one that needs to be bought in a paperback copy, and displayed! Wonderful!

Romance Review

Romance A+

This book was outstanding. Lisa Renee Jones has created another spectacular novel. This book left me guessing with each turn of the page. Each situation gives you more to think about, and more to question, and more you are desperate to know! I found myself flipping pages, reading until late in the night, just hoping to find out what happens next.

Don’t let the rich alpha male, and the girl with a troubled past make you think that this novel is anything like any other erotic, romance or other new adult book you’ve read. It’s not, it’s different, and you need to pick it up.

Amy is a wonderfully well written character, with a great story, and Liam, wow, Liam is something else. I’d give this 5 stars, and then give it 5 starts again. The sex is steamy, the story line is interesting, twists and turns, and keeps you on edge until the final page. This novel is outstanding. I am already awaiting another book. Lisa Renee Jones knows how to write romance, and she shows us she knows how to write suspense as well. The two melt beautifully into each other to create a perfect novel.

Even if you’re one of those people, like me, who’s not into the erotic romances, check this one out. Jones has got something on the Fifty Shades and Crossfires, this book gives you equally good sex scenes but mixed with outstanding writing and a whole new mystery and suspense element. I promise this won’t disappoint, this is one erotic novel that would make an outstanding movie, because its so well written and interesting I couldn’t put it down! 🙂 I had the characters in my head long after I finished reading it, and I have no complaints! 🙂

In the beginning I didn’t think I enjoy this book.  But I have to tell you that J.D.Miller has some of the most creative writing I have read in a while. I love the fantasy world in this book, it’s a very complex story and would be a great pick for anyone that loves reading about fantasy worlds.

Review: Small Things by Joe DeRouen – Perfect Horror!

Small Things by Joe DeRouen

SmallThings

Blurb:

“It’s a hot June morning in a small Midwestern town when fifteen-year-old Shawn Spencer arrives at the church for his best friend Tanner’s funeral. Though his drowning was officially ruled an accident, Tanner’s sister Jenny swears she saw something rise up from the Carthage Lake to pull the struggling teenager beneath the surface.

Shawn doesn’t believe in monsters… but he will…

The real threat, however, lies in the man behind the monster, a mysterious old man who has vowed to settle an old grudge and regain something that was stolen from him decades earlier. To survive the dark days and nights ahead, Shawn must not only decipher what the man is after, he must move past his own grief, fears, and insecurities, and learn to trust in Jenny, the disgraced town sheriff, and, most importantly, in himself.

The Small Things trilogy spans forty years and three generations in a tale of murder, betrayal, corruption, sacrifice, love, redemption, faith and magic that culminates in a showdown that will pit the very forces of heaven and hell against Shawn and his family in a battle for the future of mankind and the world itself.”

Review:

Grade:  A

This wan’t a short novel ,but any means, but I didn’t want it to be either. I found myself flipping pages, over and over, getting deeper into the story, and losing hours. This isn’t just your typical monster story, though the author gets you to believe that at first. You fear the monster, you worry for the characters, then you dive deeper into the story, and see what the real monster is, and there’s no turning back. You are hooked into this story, and you want to see it play out.

All the characters are well written and interesting, and feel realistic. A nice time setting for this book, in the 70s, made everything fit together much nicely then if it were taking place in current day. We feel for the character, we root for them, and worry for them. They are a part of the story, and we become one too.

Joe has mastered horror. He gives us the creepy details, the wonderful foreshadowing, and the threat of danger. He keeps us looking over our shoulder for the monster, and leaving the lights on while reading. There’s a mix of Stephen King, James Patterson, and even some J.K Rowling in here. He crafts the horror, the mystery, the magic and suspense into one story you can’t stop reading.

Even the first sentence grabs you.. Some one is following him. Right away, we want to know, we get involved, and it’s a ride we won’t soon forget!

I’m so glad there’s more books to follow this one because honestly, Joe DeRouen is a great writer who is full of potential.

This is another one of those books that I wish I had in paperback, signed, on my shelf for everyone to see, because he’s going places with his writing, and I’m glad to have been a part of it! J

A Killer of Lions Review

Grade: A+

I really loved this book, I have to start off with that because honestly, I didn’t expect to. I’m not a lover of war novels, or fighting books, but this one was real, touching, and just detailed enough to be interesting but not overwhelming. It has enough of real history, events and dates in order to keep it grounded and fleshed out the characters to really create an engaging story.

Buddy was a strong character, and he grew on me throughout the book! He’s struggle, and his drive to be a pilot was inspiring, and it’s nice also see flaws in main characters, and Buddy’s pride is definitely a flaw for him throughout the book. His pride gets him into more and more trouble.

The foreshadowing in this book, especially the second half, was really good. I could tell we were heading for something, and the author was trying to tip us off a bit, but I was never sure exactly what we were in for. The twist and turns in the book pulled at the heartstrings and created such joy.

The adorable relationship between Buddy and Tina, was sweet, touching and definitely a wonderful portrait of a wartime relationship, complete with the touching tributes and letters. I’m so glad that they were able to have a happy ending.

Buddy’s journey from civilian, to soldier, to pilot was touching, tough, and kept me on the edge of my seat. I was pulling for him, each time he got passed over, I was hurt, and each time he succeeded, I was so happy. You can tell this author based the story off of real people and real events. Everything felt real, nothing felt faked or forced. His interactions, letters, and general manner was real, and really created a great main character.

The author’s writing is wonderfully detailed, he paints pictures of every scene, and allows use to really feel how the characters feel and really be in the scenes. The stories range from funny to frightening, but they have such heart to them, and build up to a wonderful ending. An ending Buddy and his fellow pilots so deserved.

I’m glad to see this story getting told, so often we overlook things in history, because at the time they happened the records were overlooked. The deeds of the Tuskegee airmen helped turn the tides in WW2, and this book is a wonderful tribute to them, and what they did for our country. Stan does an amazing job keeping the factual details straight and showing an honest portrait of the Tuskegee Airmen.

25 Perfect Days” was a random choice of book for me. I knew it was fiction and set in the future. I had no idea how incredibly well crafted those 25 stories would be. The author paints a future society with an overlord of new religion, population control, impulse release options, that are frowned upon today. There is a huge class of poor, hopeless, struggling people. The stories interweave, connect and enlighten.

Dystopian tales are a dime a dozen right now, you can basically pick 5 books at random in a book store, and at least 1-2 of them will be dystopian in nature. As a society right now we are fascinated with the future and what it will look like, harking back to a later time, or jumping into a strange and terrifying reality we can barely imagine. Mark Tullis has taken his dystopian twist, and made an extremely terrifying, and disturbingly realistic look at the slippery slide of this complete and utter overall of the American culture. His book stands out to me from the other dozens of dystopian tales and novels I’ve read because we can see this future, and we can feel this future. A future of population control, hundreds of pregnant women having to pay to keep their children, of religion dictating humans place in the ecosystem, and of prisons that give you 5 minutes with the killer of your family member and turn a blind eye.

25 Perfect Days” is well written, crafted by someone who knows how to choose the right word and craft a sentence, but there’s so much more to the collection then Tullis’s skills alone. He creates a place that makes you think, makes you question, and ultimately makes you look twice. His tales are chilling, heartbreaking. At times, the tales are also uplifting when you see the person, who despite the horrible conditions and worse future, do something to save someone else. Selfless, brave, honorable. These characteristics are prevalent throughout this collection. It allows the reader to see that even in the darkest circumstances people will rise up to attempt the right thing. Each story Mark writes doesn’t necessarily need to be read in order, but each has a numerical title, lending each story to these 25 days, and 25 individual stories of people giving in, giving up or overcoming. This collection, in my opinion is outstanding. It isn’t one of those common dystopian novels that spoon feeds you the future that you must accept. This novel will make you think, and it will make you want to fight back, and want to find a way to rise above.

Well done Mark Tullis!

Review:

Jack Be Nimble takes us on a journey through the lives and relationship of Jack and Mercedes. This is the core plot line throughout this book, and they both are struggling to keep their separate lives together, when all they want is to be together. They just haven’t completely realized it.

Note, this is NOT a romance novel, so those of you uninterested in romance keep reading, I bet this book will have something that interests you because this book has it all.

Spies, Heartbroken lovers, kidnapping, photographers, England, France, swimming, hidden weapons and action

Truckloads of action!

The other core plot line of the novel is spies, kidnapping, and secret missions. This novel could rivel any military novel, spy novel out there. It’s got all the hallmarks of a good action novel, but it also has the characters and history for a love story.

To be honest, the only reason this book got a B+ and not an A+ was because the scene switches were a little hard for me. I got lost a couple times trying to figure out if I was in real life, fiction life, or past time. The stories are amazing, well written and completely understandable once you are in a scene. I may be the only person who got confused but I loved this book so much, it didn’t hinder me from continuing! J

By the time you make it to the end of this novel, it all becomes clear, so hold on for the twist and turns and a bit of confusion from past and present stories, and enjoy it. This novel is the perfect premise for a well thought out, logical action movie!  Jack is an amazing character; the depth in the character is clearly present from the beginning, in the future scenes, current scenes, and past scenes. Jack’s character never wavers.

I love this novel, I’ll definitely be checking out his other novels, to see what happens to Jack next, and you should too! J
