Day 16: Top 3 Badass Female Characters. Helena, Lily and Ariya! :)

For this Book Slut challenge I’m forced to pick 3 badass female characters.

This hard as lately, I’ve read a lot of female centric books, which had some amazing kick ass women in them! 🙂

Top 3 Badass Female Character (No order)

1. Helena (Hells) Hawthorne

The Risen: Dawning by Marie F. Crow

TheRisenDawning

This is an amazing novel. It’s not a just a zombie novel, it’s not just meant for lovers of the campy horror, it’s for lovers of strong writing and amazing characterization. That’s this novel. It harkens back to better time of horror, and writing in general. Her main character, Hells, is just a wonderful example of a bad ass female character. She kicks ass, takes names, and really drives this story. She’s a wonderfully written character and does a lot for the story as a whole.

2. Lily Ruckler

King Hall by Scarlett Dawn

King Hall

Another amazing book with such a great female lead. Lily, the mate of the soon-to-be King Shifter, suddenly finds her world turned upside down. She’s now King Shifter in training, her mate is dead due to Com (human/non magical) violence, and they are basically on the brink of a war. She’s got a secret that she needs to protect and didn’t expect to have this new life, but she handles it, doesn’t whine, and kicks major ass. She’s badass, sexy and doesn’t take shit from anyone. She’s a fantastic character, and I can’t wait for book 2!

3. Ariya Adams

Protected by Anna Applegate

943675_455228607886767_375537040_n

Ariya Adams, human, doesn’t think there’s anything special about her life.. turns out she’s completely wrong and there’s a whole lot more to her life and even the world around here. Vampires, werewolves, magic, and so many more twists I don’t want to just reveal to you. You need to read this book! 🙂 She gets thrown into a basically a shitstorm of drama, and this girl doesn’t back down. Yes, she’s emotional but they explain that, but she also doesn’t pull a “Bella” and pout, whine or otherwise degrade herself. She’s awesome, spunky and kick ass.

Don’t forget to check out Tiffany’s Book Hangover for her Kick ass Females! 🙂

Day 15: Book That Will Make a Fantastic Movie – Protected, Hopeless, King Hall and more!

Ohhhh man, this one is super hard because I’ve read so many amazing books recently by indie authors that I’d love to see on the big screen, so I’m just going to make a little mini list!

Don’t hate me if your book didn’t make the list, I have read so many more I could list but it was only supposed to be one and I’m cheating anyway! But honestly, they are amazing! Click on the links and check them out!

Day 10 – Top 9 Book Boyfriends :)

So, today… a wonderful post! 🙂

Top 9 Book Boyfriends

Random number 9, for day 10, but oh well, let’s go for it! 🙂 This will be a mix of indie books and popular books! These are in no particular order.. I love all of them equally!

1.  Mr. Darcy from Pride & Prejudice 🙂 The original book boyfriend, the perfect guy!  I mean, really, who doesn’t love him? I’ve read so many, much racier spin offs of P&P just for him!

Image

2.  Jace from The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare. Such a conflicted character, but so so lovely, and such a book boyfriend! He’s handsome, strong, and has such a heart!

3.  Will from Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare.. oh Will, so tortured, so smart. He love to read. He loves books. He’s perfect.

4.  Holden from Hopeless/ Losing Hope by Colleen Hoover. Oh Holden! He’s such a gentleman in a time where those are few and far between. He has been searching for the girl he loves almost all his life. He changes her life. He’s patient, kind, good hearted, and not to mention very very good looking 🙂

5.  James from Protected by Anna Applegate. Vampire with a soft side. You can’t ask for much more than that, except if he’s dedicated to spending his life by your side protecting you. He can also play hockey like no one else. I found a look a like, the hairs a little darker than I’d like!

James

6.  Ezra from King Hall by Scarlett Dawn.  He’s a vampire, who doesn’t want anyone to know he has a heart. He’s a fighter, a King Vampire, and a complete ladies man. He’s cunning, smart, dead sexy and deep down has a soft side. Ohh. I love him!

Ezra

7.  Cole from Branded by Abi & Missy, he is the white knight. Soldier, lover, and all around good guy. You don’t expect him to be as caring as he is, but he surprises you, and then you can’t turn away. He’s deep, caring, and an all around bad ass. He can fight, and he’s willing to fight for love. 🙂 Thanks to Devoured Words for this amazing image!

8.  Nicholas from House of Crimson & Clover Series. I know he’s not a main character in either book, but I’m so glad he’s going to be more of a focus in the next book. He’s interesting, a bit funny, definitely funny. He’s got such a different outlook on life, and it shows through. He’s got the best smile, or so I think 🙂

Nicolas

9. Last, Aragorn, from Lord of The Rings. I’ve always loved this ranger from the North. He’s rugged, handsome, honorable, and a king. He put people first, and does what’s needed of him, despite the consequences. I’ve love him since I was about 10 years old. He’s my king!

Blurb:
A fresh, meaty, sink-your-teeth-in-and-hold-on-tight new adult fantasy series kicks off with King Hall…King Hall — where the Mysticals go to learn their craft, get their degrees, and transition into adulthood. And where four new Rulers will rise and meet their destinies.

Lily Ruckler is adept at one thing:  survival.  Born a Mystical hybrid, her mere existence is forbidden, but her nightmare is only about to start. Fluke, happenstance, and a deep personal loss finds Lily deeply entrenched with those who would destroy her simply for existing — The Mystical Kings.  Being named future Queen of the Shifters shoves Lily into the spotlight, making her one of the most visible Mysticals in the world. But with risk comes a certain solace — her burgeoning friendships with the other three Prodigies: a wicked Vampire, a wild-child Mage, and a playboy Elemental. Backed by their faith and trust, Lily begins to relax into her new life.

Then chaos erupts as the fragile peace between Commoners and Mysticals is broken, and suddenly Lily realises the greatest threat was never from within, and her fear takes on a new name: the Revolution.Image

Scarlett Dawn is drawn to all things quirky and off-beat. She believes there are no boundaries for an imaginative soul. Her love of the written word started from at an early age, when her grandmother would take her to bookstores every weekend. Dreams came alive within the books she found there, and now, she is thrilled to share her stories with others who have fallen under the spell of taking fantastical journeys. Scarlett resides in the Midwest with her husband, three children, and two dogs.

Before requesting King Hall on Netgalley, I had read a lot of paranormal fiction. I’ve read about the vampire schools, the werewolf family, the romances, and I’m here to tell you King Hall blew all of them out of the water, including those fantasy titles you can’t turn a corner without hearing about. This is one of the best paranormal fantasy novels I have read, and I’ve read almost every main one out there and many indie ones.

The plot for King Hall makes all the difference, the set up of 4 Kings, each of a different fraction, Shifter, Vampire, Mage, and elemental. This is something I haven’t seen before, rarely does any author tackle two of the creatures but this book tackles 4 sets. We focus on the Shifters, as the main heroine, is a Shifter.

The plot takes twist and turns even in the first third of the book that you do not see coming, you’re heartstrings will be pilled in so many directions they will be sore. The core friendship in the book is real, and hilarious. It’s an insightful book, and a fresh new look at fantasy without beating the dead “vampire/werewolf” horse.

I’ve already blabbed about this book to my friends, blogged about it, and shared it on facebook constantly! I need the second one already, the cliffhanger ending is perfect, and leaves the reading wanting so much more!

I promise you won’t be disappointed! There’s two days left to pre-order and help us get released on July 25th instead of August 1st! It doesn’t seem like a long time, but I promise this book is amazing and you’ll wish the second one was in your hands!

Weekly Round Up – The Help, Between Eden and The Open Road, and King Hall!

So, as it’s Friday, and the end of my work week, I figured I’d round up some of the books I recently finished and love, some of the books I’ve started and some of the books I’m excited to start reading! 🙂

Books I’ve read this week:

1. The Entire Fallen Trilogy by Lauren Kate (Yes, I became addicted and couldn’t help it, you start with the first book in this series, and I promise you, it will snowball, and you’ll want to read them all, which I have, this week. Hence the lack of posting)

2. Entwined With You by Sylvia Day (Yes, I know, mainstream romance novel at it’s finest, but I honestly can’t help reading books that are on some best seller list, I always feel like if I don’t read them, I’ve never have anything to bring up in conversation.)

3. The Help by Kathryn Stockett (I’m reading this along with one other book, Marked by P.C Cast & Kirsten Cast for my book club, I’ve previously read Marked and loved it and it’s series, but never read the The Help. I can honestly say I loved this book, and it kept me on the edge of my seat because you really pull for these characters)

Book’s I’ve Started and am in Love with!

1. Between Eden and The Open Road by Phillip Gaber – This book is great, I expected a novel, but what I got was an outstanding collection of prose and poetry, I’m more then 3/4 through this book, but I can honestly say the disaffecting tone in this poetry collection is refreshing and honest. I enjoy reading it because it feels truthful, gritty and real. It’s a great collection!

2. The Ashtray Volume 1 by Joan W Jones, Nicole Diver, Elizabeth Luna– This is a collection of short stories, firmly rooted in real life, and the things that you can experience in the bar scene and life in general in your college years and beyond. The voices of these authors are clear, beautiful and haunting. The book is outstandingly simple and complex at the same time, and the illustrations through the book really bring something extra to the table, I cannot wait to finish this book and give a full review, because I’m sure a lot of people will be eager to read this.

Book’s I’m excited to Start!

25 Perfect Days by Mark Tullis – This is a collection of poetry set in the distopian future, and mixing in religious and other things that have lead out civilization to where it currently resides in these poems. I’ve been waiting to finish my other poetry collection in order to start this one! So excited!

2. King Hall by Scarlett Dawn – This book looks amazing, and I’ve super exciting to have ARC in order to review it, because it it just up my alley. Supernatural, romance, vampires, shifters! It’s got everything a fantasy lover like myself could want in one book! 🙂
